Frequently Asked Questions...

1. Do you attend births at specific hospitals or birth centers?

I can attend at the hospital or birth center of your choice. Please let your doctor or midwife know before the birth that you have hired a Doula.

2. Do you attend home births?

I love attending home births!

3. May we call you and talk to you about any concerns we have before or after the birth?

Yes. Once you have hired me as your Doula I will be available to you by either phone or email during daytime hours to provide information, answer questions, or discuss birth scenarios. I will be on call 24 hours a day during the 2 weeks before your due date through the week after birth.

6. What is a birth plan, and how can a Doula help me develop one?

A birth plan is like a road map for how you would like your birth to be. We can work together to help you write a birth plan by discussing options and possibilities.

4. I am planning to have an epidural. Will it still be good for me to have a Doula?

Yes! Even with an epidural, labor is not always pain free. An epidural does not change the wide range of emotions that come with labor and birth. Your Doula will focus on your feelings and offer the comfort and reassurance you may need. Helping you to cope with pain is only a small part of all a Doula does. She will also hold your hand, explain what is happening, bring ice chips, help you insure your birth plan is being followed, and provide company when your partner needs a break.

5. I have a scheduled caesarean birth. Why would I need a Doula?

A Doula can help find answers to your questions and help you develop a birth plan for a caesarean section. In the operating room, your Doula will stay by your side. This assures that if your partner has to go to the nursery with the baby, you will not be left alone. After the birth the Doula can help you with comfort measures and establishing breast feeding.
